Legal Assistant
We're a small, woman-owned litigation firm in Houston's Heights neighborhood. We represent clients in commercial and real estate litigation, title insurance disputes, construction, fiduciary and employment matters, and appeals. We're looking for an experienced legal assistant to help three busy lawyers stay organized, prepared, and ahead of what's coming.
We're not looking for someone who knows everything. We're looking for someone who knows how to figure things out.
What you'll do
You'll have real responsibility for keeping our litigation practice running smoothly. That includes:
Deadlines: Own the litigation calendar. Anticipate deadlines, verify them, and keep the team ahead of them.
Filings: Prepare and e-file documents in Texas state courts and federal CM/ECF. Confirm acceptance and troubleshoot problems.
Quality control: Be the last set of eyes before documents go out. Catch formatting problems, missing exhibits, incorrect attachments, service issues, and anything else that shouldn't make it out the door.
Litigation support: Prepare pleading and discovery templates, coordinate document productions and Bates numbering, arrange service, and schedule court reporters.
Preparation: Help attorneys get ready for hearings, mediations, and trials without unnecessary last-minute emergencies.
Document management: Maintain organized, accurate electronic files using Clio and Microsoft 365. No mystery versions, missing documents, or unnecessary confusion.
Coordination: Manage competing priorities across multiple attorneys and communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and mediators.
What we expect
We need someone with at least three years of litigation support experience, strong proofreading and communication skills, and familiarity with Texas litigation procedures, state e-filing, and federal CM/ECF.
But experience alone isn't enough.
We're a small firm. Everyone wears multiple hats. There's no large support staff to absorb neglected responsibilities, and no elaborate hierarchy to hide behind. Your contributions will be visible, and so will your mistakes. The same is true for everyone here.
We value people who acknowledge mistakes and learn from them.
We want someone who takes ownership of their work, not just someone who completes assigned tasks.
What you can expect from us
We're a small, collaborative team that takes its work seriously without taking itself too seriously.
You'll have direct access to experienced attorneys who value teaching and professional development. You'll be trusted with meaningful responsibilities and given room to develop your skills and judgment.
We offer:
Real autonomy: Responsibility for your work, with clear expectations and direct communication.
Meaningful mentoring: Experienced attorneys who will invest in your development and expect you to invest in it, too.
A collaborative environment: People who share knowledge, help one another, and take responsibility for the result.
A great location: Our offices are in the Heights, with free parking and neighborhood restaurants and coffee shops nearby.
Competitive compensation
Benefits: Health insurance, PTO, holidays
Schedule: Full-time, in-office
Interested?
Send your résumé and two recent professional references to hiring@ccsfirm.law.
We'd also like to know one thing:
Tell us about a problem you encountered at work that you didn't initially know how to solve. What did you do?
Keep your answer brief. We're less interested in a remarkable story than in understanding how you approach unfamiliar problems.
We're not looking for the person who only has an impressive résumé. We're looking for the person who will make the strongest contribution to our team.
